What’s On At The Reserve

 

Calling Horsham’s Young Birders – 18/08/2022

A guided walk at Warnham Local Nature Reserve with MYA BAMBRICK, the passionate young wildlife
photographer and birder.

Time: 10 am – 11.30 am

AGES: 8 TO 12 YEARS
£3 per child with accompanying adults free.

Very limited places, so booking is essential.

Family Pond Dipping – 31/08/2022

All Places must be booked and are limited to 8 persons for each session (adults and accompanied children)

Timed slots will be allocated between 11:00 – 12:45 and 14:00 – 15:45

All nets and equipment will be provided. Normal admission to the Reserve applies.

This event will be dependant on there being sufficient water in the dipping ponds, please check before attending on the day.

Our Head Warden Jake will be showing us the process of bird ringing and all that this involves.

Places are very limited on this so don’t delay , this event will incur a £4 charge to cover the costs of the equipment. To book your space please call in at the Visitors Centre or call 01403 756238.

Meet up at the Visitors Centre at 06.00, this will last approximately two hours.

Needle Felting Workshop – 20/09/2022

Are you feeling creative? This is your chance to learn a new skill and make something different.

The cost will be £20 per person, payable on booking. All materials and refreshments are included. This workshop will run from 10.00 until 13.00.

Bat Walk – Friday 23rd September 2022

We are pleased to be hosting a Bat Walk on Friday 23rd September 2022 starting TBC. For our Members entry is free, for non members cost is £4.oo. Places are very limited so please either call the Reserve on 01403 756238 or call in at Herons Rest Café to book your slot(s).

 

Floral Art Workshop – 06/10/2022

Do you fancy creating a colourful, unique, floral arrangement using seasonal flowers and plant material, why not head down to the Reserve and have a go.

There will be two sessions, one in the morning from 10.00 – 12.00 and one in the afternoon 13.00 – 15.00. Cost will be £25 and this includes all materials, a hot drink and a cookie.

Follow the trail to learn about the insects and other creepy
crawlies that live on the reserve and find some of the
answers to our quiz. You may know some already!

Dawn Chorus – 02/05/2022

A unique opportunity to experience the magical sounds of the Dawn Chorus on the Reserve.

Be prepared though for a very early start, but will be very much worth it.

Meet up at the Visitors Centre at 04.45, walk will last approximately an hour and a half.

The cost of this is £10 and includes a bacon roll/sausage sandwich.

Easter Trail – 15 -18/04/2022

This will be a self-guided trail, please come dressed for the weather and in suitable footwear.

Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Only one Easter Gift per child

Children can only be booked on one session per day

Heritage Walk Around The Reserve – 26/03/2022

Join our historian on a guided walk as he explains about the extraction and smelting of iron ore on the site in the 17th century, and about some of the people associated with it.

Half Term Build a Bird Box – 22nd & 24th February 2022

Why not join our warden team to make your own bird box. Build and decorate your very own box for your garden!

Ages 6 years and over: £10 per session (no charge for accompanying adults) Sessions: 10.00am to 11.00am, 11.30am to 12.30pm and 2.00pm to 3.00pm

South Africa Western Cape Wanderings -17/02/2022

On Thursday 17th February 2022 from 19.30 to 21.15 we will be hosting a zoom talk with Neil Henry on wildflowers and smaller less well known animals encountered on his travels to South Africa.

A Zoom talk on the wildlife on Shetland

On Tuesday 11th January 2022 from 19.30 to 21.00 we will be hosting a Zoom call with Matt Eade on the wildlife that can be found on the rugged northern Shetland Isles.

Christmas Wreath Making

We are very pleased to announce that we will be hosting our wreath making days again this year.  These will be held on the following days:

Wednesday 1st December 2021- This is for Friends Members Only

Thursday 2nd December 2021 – Open to everyone

Friday 3rd December 2021 – Open to everyone

There will be two sessions each day, one in the morning from 10.00 – 12.00 and one in the afternoon from 13.00 – 15.00. Please bring your own gloves and secateurs and additional greenery you may wish to use or donate for others to use.

The cost is £15 per person and includes a hot drink and a mince pie.

Places are very limited and must be booked and paid for in advance at Herons Rest Café or by calling the Reserve on 01403 756238.

Half Term Activities -25th – 29th October 2021

We’re delighted to confirm that the new Discovery Hub and Shelley Wildlife Garden will open on Monday 25 October 2021, just in time to host an exciting variety of free fun activities for school children over the half-term holidays.

Inside the Discovery Hub, you’ll find:
                 Information about the industrial, natural and social heritage of our nature reserve
                 Interactive displays to educate and inform
                 Details of recent sightings on the Reserve and what to look out for during your visit
                 Ample space to accommodate lectures, events and group visits.
